This residence on the Oregon Coast was designed for a successful businesswoman and artist.  Her desire was for an open plan concept where she can entertain as well as spend quiet time with her family.  In addition, being able to enjoy the mild (but wet) coastal climate was apriority.

A large wrap-around porch is oriented to the south.  Depending on weather conditions, there is always an area where one can be comfortable and enjoy the outdoors.  It also provides a sense of transition and acts as an organizing element for the interior spaces. Internally a Great Room concept allows for dining, living kitchen and other functions to share light, views and circulation. The second floor, which contains the master suite and painting studio, also has a skylit mezzanine that overlooks the mainliving areas below.

The Greatroom is a two-story space that is surrounded on three sides by the covered porch. The porch helps filter light into the room via ground floor windows. Other windows high in the space bring sunlight deep into the room. A wood burning fireplace and quarry tile floor add warmth and character.
